Bowness' Thriller
What else do you do on a miserable October day?
Thriller Flash Mob
I have been very lucky over these last few weeks and have been out and about with our oldest children. I have been on a train with Class 3 as well as to Tullie House and Glasson Moss with Class 4. Proving that Class 4 are great nature detectives, Joe found the tiny Sundew (insect eating plant) on the Moss when we were learning all about this unique habitat on our doorstop. Such a beautiful plant!

Sports Day
What a fantastic gallery! What talented children and such hard working staff. Special thanks to the mighty Mrs Misselbrook who planned and organised this super Art Week. Roll on the 2016 Science Week!
Art week continues with fish made of willow and recycled bottles as well as the completion of the 3 haaf nets - one for each class. This is Class 3's. Can you see the oyster catcher?
Mrs Misselbrook has lots of fab, creative ideas and Art Week is fantastic! Thank you so much to our army of parent helpers who are helping our children to do so many fun things. However, art is not really my strong point, but I keep smiling!
So pleased to see our adventurers back from Barcaple today. They are tired but happy. Some are more tired than others...
Barcaple
I visited Barcaple today and met happy, excited and well behaved canoeists! Tom is having such a great time, I doubt he'll come back!
We have received this email from FNKD:
Dear Bowness on Solway Primary School
First I would like to thank you once more for the cheque you sent us in December.
I just wanted to up date you on how we have spent some of your money.
Most of our work is centred around the village of Bucence near the town of Rukungiri in South Western Uganda. We started helping Bucence Primary School a few years ago as it was in such a poor state and in the centre of a village where all of the families are living in extreme poverty. By improving the buildings, buying school uniforms and materials and starting sponsorship programmes we raised the place from 23 children to now 220.
Last year the school opened a nursery section to the school and the children met in the church as they had no building. Now after your great help we have our first nursery classroom. I was in Bucence during the Easter break and saw that some of your money had already been spent on rendering the walls inside and putting in a concrete floor and so I asked for the work to continue. So, some more of your money has been used to put in door and window frames and also wooden shutters as you can see on the pictures. The picture of the children was taken as they were singing a song to say thank you.
Thank you once more for the great help you have given to this school.
Kind regards
Rachel Harris

BBC Music Day - Hadrian's Wall of Sound
A musical relay is planned for Friday 5th June beginning at Bowness-on-Solway. At dawn (well, 6am) you'll here music coming from the marsh, from Carlisle saxophonist Roz Sluman, as the relay begins. Over 600 artists will be taking part with the final performance of the day being at Wallsend over 12 hours later. Will you be up in time?
I'm sure you already knew this, but a child has told me to type this into the address bar - elgoog.im
Try it and investigate the games there...
Defending the Bowness Bell
Book Swap
In our entrance hall is a bookcase. This is our book swap. You can take a book home to read. If you love it, you can keep it but if you don't just bring it back and maybe try another. If you have any books at home that are in good condition that you don't read or want anymore you could donate them to the book swap. Over the last 2 days, we have refilled the bookcase 3 times and yet this is what it looked like at hometime on Friday!
All around the world
Did you know that people from all over the world have looked at our website? So far we have had visitors from New Zealand, Japan, India, Ireland, Sweden, Spain, Romania, Kazakhstan, Oman, Cyprus, USA and the UK! This is very exciting. Do you know where all these places are? Try and find them all on this interactive map of the world.
U Dance 24th April 2015
Now, I love dancing but unfortunately I am a bit rubbish at it. However, after help from Charlotte and Freya I can join in with about 5 seconds of Class 3's U Dance routine. Thank you girls! However, luckily Class 3 are absolutely amazing and their performance at the Sands in Carlisle was jaw dropping and eye popping - totally brilliant! Miss Edwards, Elaine, Tom, Miss Nattrass and I were astounded. Congratulations Class 3 and thank you to our talented choreographer, Miss Edwards, and Elaine our wardrobe mistress. Photographs on Class 3's page. We met Kirkbride Primary School there. Thank you to Caitlin for my nails!
School Council Elections 23rd April 2015
The sealed ballot box
New councillors!
New councillors!
New councillors!
On Thursday 23rd April the classes voted for their school councillors. There were many moving speeches and I'm certainly glad I didn't have to choose!
Our new councillors are Theo, Penny, Freya, Charlotte, Evelyn, Jack and Annabelle. Congratulations!
Charlotte's Web
Charlotte's Web has been voted the best book for children according to a BBC poll of international book critics. See the rest of the list on the HT's Blog! Have you read them all?
Library vote!
There are 6 windows in the library. Which book characters should go on those windows? Are you an Elmer fan? Paddington? Harry Potter? Or something different?
Go to the blog to leave a sticky note on the noticeboard!!
World Book Day
What a day of stories! We had hot chocolate (well, we are in our pyjamas!) and fantastic stories from teachers from other classes, Mrs Cozens in the office, Mrs Watters from the kitchen, Jenna our bus driver, Debbie Paisley our Veterinary Nurse and even a crocodile called Tom! Pre School came to visit and we all went home with our £1 book token, reading smiles, book worms and story sherbet. Thank you to Bookends in Carlisle who donated enough books for every child in school (and in pre-school) to take one home. Look at our book decorated doors, too!
